Evolution of PlayStation from Celtx

 Introduction

Technology has changed over the years, so much so that it has impacted our lives and the way we interact with other people online. Here, I'll be talking about how the PlayStation has changed over time and how it has impacted our lives. My documentary will be as long as 2 or 5 minutes and it will be a couple of weeks of production.

It relates to the brief because it talks about how the digital age has changed over the years and how it impacted our lives and mental health, the PlayStation relates to this because it had a massive change over the decades and it did impact people’s lives and mental health.

PlayStation

The origins of the very first PlayStation dates back to 1994, in Japan. It was created because Sony wanted to rival Nintendo 64 and since it was released on 3 December, 1994 it became a huge success; as the console was shipped to other countries more than 100 million units. The PS1 had the ability to utilize discs to play games and it had a controller, which were gray and the buttons were black.

The only thing that the PS1 didn’t have was headphones and the ability to contact friends to invite them to play a game with you and back in the day, you had to invite your friend to your house and play.

PlayStation 2

6 years later, after the release of the first PlayStation, Sony released another console as the successor to the first one, which is the PlayStation 2. Sony made improvements to the previous console such as, graphics, controller, digital surround sound and more. Also, PS2 was the first console to support DVDs in addition to enabling games with larger assets.

PlayStation 3

On 11 November, 2006 the PlayStation 3 was released in Japan. The PS3 sold more than 80 million units worldwide. Sony introduced new features into the PS3, those features include a Wi-fi connectivity and a hard drive of 20GB, which is something that PS2 didn’t have at the time. These changes had impacted a lot of people because unlike PS3, the PS2 did not have any Wi-fi connection; in order for the internet to work on the PS2, you had to use a third-party Ethernet bridge. But with the PS3, you can just connect to your Wi-fi network at home and that's it.

PlayStation 4

Sony released the new PlayStation 4 on 15 November, 2013 but this time it was released in North America instead of Japan. Sony has sold 1,000,000 units within its first day, making it the fast selling-console to date. One of the features of the PS4 includes making your own friends list, which is an easier way to talk to a specific friend rather than to find your way of looking for a friend if you have tons of friends in your console. Also, you can name your friend list. This was an improvement of the PS3 friends list since it can only handle 100 friends but the PS4 can handle 2,000 friends. This changes the digital age because you can add more friends over 100 if it happens you met someone from the other side of the world while playing a game like GTA 5 online, for example you can add that person if you enjoyed playing them.

PlayStation 5

PlayStation 5 came out just a month ago but Sony announced last year that they were planning to release a successor to the PS4 in 2020. It was released on 12 November, 2020 in Australia, Japan, New Zealand, North America, Singapore, and South Korea. By 19 November, 2020 the PS5 is available worldwide.

The changes that PS5 introduced is that PS5 has a SSD in place and it will help in reducing the loading times in your games. Another awesome feature that PS5 introduces is that the console has a voice assistant similar to Alexa and Google Assistant, it's called ''PlayStation Assist'' so you can just ask the assistant of what game you want to play and the assistant goes to the game for you, this feature did exist on PS4 only for a limited capacity.

The digital age has evolved and just keeps getting better and better by the years. As you can see how Sony has changed its consoles over the years for example, the PS5 has the capacity to do things that PS4 can't do like having a assistant for limited while the PS5 the assistant is always there. These changes just makes our lives much simpler and easier when using these type of consoles.
