AC2: Problem Solving
AC2: Problem Solving
Chosen Idea: My chosen is Evolution of PlayStation. The reason why I chose this one over the other ideas that I have on my mind map on Coggle is because I'm familiar to the PlayStation more than other consoles and I'm a fan of PlayStation myself. This idea is interesting to me as a fan of the console as I wanted go back in time to play the very first PlayStation and how it changed over the years.
Refine your idea: The location for this documentary is going to be made in college because it has all of the equipment that I need to make this documentary, such as the voice over microphone as my documentary is going to have me explaining to you about the evolution of PlayStation.
Meeting the brief: My idea does meet with the brief because the documentary that I'm doing does relate with digital age. In the documentary, I'll be talking about how the PlayStation changed over time and how sales have gone up when they were released, respectively.

PlayStation:
The very first PlayStation was made in Japan, the person that came up with the idea was a man named Ken Kutaragi, a Sony executive who managed one of the company's hardware engineering and he was dubbed as ''The Father of the PlayStation''.
The console's origins dates back in 1988 where it was originally a joint project between Nintendo and Sony to create a CD-ROM for the Super Famicom. But the deal was broken by Nintendo after the two companies were unable to come an agreement on how revenue would be split between the two companies. The breaking of this partnership really upset Sony's president Norio Ohga, who responded by hiring Ken Kutaragi to create a PlayStation project to rival Nintendo.
Sony released it's first PlayStation back in 3 December, 1994. It was the first video game console to ship more than 100 million units and it's also considered to be a part of fifth generation of consoles and competed the Saga Saturn and Nintendo 64 in the mid-'90s.
The original PlayStation had a pivotal role in transitioning the industry away from 2D graphics to real-time 3D rendering. The use of the compact disc format also allowed it to push high-fidelity full motion video, which is something that Nintendo 64 struggled a lot with its space-limited cartridges.
PlayStation 2:
It was first released in Japan on 4 March, 2000, the PlayStation 2 has gone to become the best selling console to date, selling more than 155 million units over a 12 year-span. PS2 competed with consoles such as, Sega Dreamcast, Nintendo's GameCube, and Microsoft's Xbox. The console leg up on the competition because it produce well over 2,000 games.
The PS2 launched with its Emotion Engine CPU, which was a one-core processor clocked at 294.9MHz. It was the first console to support DVDs which, in addition to enable games with larger assets, allowed the PS2 to play DVD movies.
Sony made huge improvements on their new console at the time. Also, it impacted a lot of people due to its improvements on their console such as the DVD player, which PS2 had lots of DVD games and you could also buy a DVD movie and watch it on PS2, which is something that the first PlayStation didn't have.
PlayStation 3:
The PlayStation 3 was released on 11 November, 2006 in Japan (followed a week later by its North American debut). The PS3 sold more than 80 million units worldwide and competed against Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii. It cost $599.99 (£449.97) at the time, it was the most expensive system but it was also the first console to have a Blu-ray drive and it was priced cheaper that most standalone Blu-ray players when it launched.
The initial versions of PlayStation 3 were compatible with PlayStation 2 games, that was because Sony incorporated a PS2 processor inside the chassis. To cut costs, Sony later removed this feature shortly after the launch.
The PS3 also introduced the WiFi connectivity and came with a 20GB hard drive. This allowed users to install their own HDD as well.
As you can see, Sony made a some changes to the PS3 and they did keep some of the features of PS2 into the new console but it was removed shortly after. The only thing the the previous console didn't had was WiFi connectivity, the PS2 didn't had any WiFi connection at the time so users had to use Ethernet bridge in order to have any internet. But thankfully, Sony remove this problem by giving the PS3 a WiFi connection, which has impacted the digital age because users had to waste money to buy Ethernet bridge in order to connect to the internet while the PS3, you can connect to your WiFi at your home and don't have to get a Ethernet bridge wire in order to have internet.
PlayStation 4:
Sony released the PlayStation 4 in North America on 15 November, 2013 and it sold 1 million units within its first day, making it the fastest-selling console in a 24 hour period to date. The PS4 marked the first time in Sony's history that would release a console with a CPU based on the x86 instruction set, which is the same processor architecture that gaming PCs use.
The PS4 also introduced the ability to upload and share gameplay clips. A Share button was added to the DualShock 4 controller, which also received an ergonomic overhaul and added headset and mic ports.
PlayStation 5:
The PlayStation 5 was announced by Sony in 2019 as the successor to the PlayStation 4. PS5 was released on 12 November, 2020 in Australia, Japan, New Zealand, North America, Singapore, and South Korea. By 19 November, 2020 the PS5 was sold to the rest of the world.
